Soaked – Illustration Friday

I’ve been experimenting with using more typography in my work recently, so this weeks’ Illustration Friday is a quick continuation of that. The letter forms are based upon the font ‘Mostra’, which is itself inspired by Italian Art Deco posters and advertising from the 1930s. The ‘Mostra’ font was created by Mark Simonson Studio.

Illustration inspired by this fascinating TED talk, about the incredible ability of young children to learn languages.
Next month my illustration work will feature in the recently-rejigged Exeter Flying Post, the theme of which is Revolution. There’s a tongue-in-cheek double page spread showing post-apocalyptic Exeter, plus I’ve collaborated on the cover with art director Ed Price (the result of which can be seen below).

I’ve been on a short holiday, and one of the things we did whilst away was to attend DoodlePlanet. This is an event that takes place every few months at Telford’s Warehouse in Chester. The organisers provide lots of big boards to draw on, great music, plus paint markers to hire for those without art materials to hand. Other than the hire fee (£5 for 6 pens, and you get £2 back when you return them) the event is entirely free, and great fun.
Fellow doodlers: Emilie Hornblower and Ellen & Adam Janman – thanks to Ellen for letting me steal her photographs.
Check out details of Doodleplanet here.
